Hunger Strike Continues Over General Iron’s Move To Southeast Side by WBEZ Feb 18, 2021

The Southeast Side of Chicago is home to the most industrial parts of the city, bearing the heaviest burden of pollution near homes, schools and parks.

Metal-shredding recycler General Iron recently closed its operations in Lincoln Park on the North Side after more than a century. The company is now awaiting a final permit from the city to start setting up shop further south — but some residents are pushing back.

Reset brings on two community activists to discuss the area’s continuous battle for less industry and more clean air, which has culminated into a growing hunger strike.
