Congratulations to the 8 Webelos II Scouts of Pack 773 who achieved the Supernova Award which recognizes superior achievement in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics or (STEM). The Supernova Award challenges scouting youth who have a great interest in STEM fields that like to experiment, understand the outcomes of these experiments and present their findings. The Supernova activities require a deep level of understanding the scientific ideas and requires scouts to do research. The scouts worked for several months to achieve this most prestigious award. They completed Adventures in Science and Engineering, Build it, First Responder, Into the Wild and Into the Woods Adventures. They spent time researching 5 scientists of their choice along with Dr. Charles H. Townes, who this award is named after. They interviewed their teachers, met with Mr. Rocha a mechanical engineer who works in a STEM related career and learned about careers in the STEM field. They completed experiments at home and with their den as well as working with their Mentor Dr. Dale Downs, they did an experiment that showed the scientific method.
It is our hope that these scouts will continue to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics in their daily lives, their studies in school and in their career choices. We are pleased to present this years recipients of the Supernova Award:
