Info Shared by Josef Michael Carr, MBA:
Today I was part of Governor Pritzker’s press conference for the legalization legislation of marijuana. The event was held at the Black United Fund of Illinois in the South Shore community. The legislation is one of the most significant and comprehensive criminal justice reform bills in the country since the 1965 Civil Right Act. The bill expunges 800,000 drug related misdemeanors and invests 20% of the revenue collected by the State back into Black and Brown communities that have been negatively impacted by the War on Drugs. All adults 21 years of age and up will be able to purchase marijuana with a valid drivers license or state ID.
For more than three years, I’ve said the State of Illinois needs to find new sources of revenue.
I’m glad to have been a part of history today.
