Resource Fair to Prevent Sexual Violence
Hosted by 004th District Community Policing Office, Chicago Police Department
Sexual Violence continues to be a serious issue in the 004th District. To address this important topic, the 004th District and the Community Policing Sub-committee for Domestic Violence will be hosting a Resource Fair to Prevent Sexual Violence, a free community event on 15 May 2019 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM. All members of the Chicago community are welcome. Refreshments will be available to the attendees.
The YWCA will be the key note presenter. The event will include a selective showing of the movie “You,” to articulate the reality of stalking. 15 minute workshops will begin at 5:30 PM and run the duration of the event. Workshops will include a healing meditation from Healing from the Inside Out, a presentation by Mujeres Latinas en Accion, and the police department will contribute a “What to Expect When You Call 911.” A police officer will be on site throughout the event to answer questions and accept reports.
Advocates from Family Rescue, Inc., Metropolitan Family Services and the Cook County State’s Attorney Office will be in attendance at the event to provide immediate support to any participant struggling with a crisis. Organizations that specialize in survivor care will be present with a host of materials and resources to assist victims of sexual violence.
Sexual Violence is an emotional topic wrought with confusion. The 004th District Sub-Committee for Domestic Violence aims to dispel some of this confusion and give citizens immediate access to information, support and resources. A citizen can report a criminal sexual assault to any Chicago Police Officer or facility at any time regardless of when or where the assault took place.
