CHICAGO — Some Chicago police officers will start wearing body cameras today.
The Michael Brown shooting in Missouri and other high-profile police confrontations have brought cries of everything from racism to excessive force.
So Chicago is joining several other communities, in a two-month pilot program that will provide visual evidence of the way officers’ conduct themselves.
About 30 officers will wear cameras at first.
Some will be clipped to their headgear or glasses; some will be attached to their uniforms.
Recording encounters between police and troublesome individuals will provide visual proof that an officer acted properly, or improperly.
If the pilot program proves successful, it will be expanded.
