The Area, a documentary film about community and displacement in Englewood.

Host The Neighborhood Network Alliance:
For the month of December, South Shore Speaks in partnership with Rebuild Foundation, and IL Humanities we will be viewing of The Area, a documentary film about community and displacement in Englewood.

THE AREA is the five-year odyssey of a South Side Chicago neighborhood, where more than 400 African-American families are displaced by a multi-billion-dollar railroad corporation. The film follows homeowner-turned-activist Deborah Payne and the “Row-Row Boys” a group of teen friends who must start a new life across gang lines. Within a visceral representation of corporate abuse and government overreach, Deborah’s battle against the railroad also reveals the strength of a community.
