Jeffery Plaza could get a new grocery store as early as this August.
Robert Liska, of River Forest, Ill.-based investment and real estate firm Liska Management, told attendees at Ald. Leslie Hairston’s monthly 5th Ward meeting tonight that he is in the final stages of negotiating a lease for the 64,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Dominick’s.
He said he expects to sign the lease within the next seven days and open a store by the beginning of August at earliest and early September at latest.
Liska said negotiations have been taking place for months.
Liska said the store would be part of a new chain, World Fresh Foods, and the first of five locations on the South Side.
Hairston confirmed this means the city will not be taking over Jeffery Plaza using eminent domain
